It all started when Carol-Anne founded Mind Health Matters Ltd in 2019, here's her story:
As well as being the Clinical Director of Mind Health Matters Ltd, I also run a thriving psychotherapy and counselling private practice, working with a diverse range of clients and issues. I specialise in anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, stress, anger management, and the one closest to my heart - nutritional therapy.
In the early years of my career I worked in the training sector, mentoring, coaching and developing people. I worked in a variety of organisations, SME's, the third sector, and latterly in a multinational corporation heading up a team of 350+. Then Mother Nature intervened, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and my world ground to a shuddering halt. I used the opportunity to completely re-evaluate my life and my values, nothing sharpens the mind faster than a life threatening disease! My diagnosis offered me the opportunity to stop and take stock, I realised that going forward I wanted to focus my time and energies on something personally fulfilling, something that resonated with my personal values and ethics.
I was fortunate that I was able to take a few years away from the working environment, spending time with my family, having always worked full time since the age of 18 I treasured this opportunity to be a full time ‘at home’ mum. I started a home baking business and was soon far busier than I ever thought possible, people really like cake! After a few years I returned to education, completed a Master’s degree in psychology and found my passion – all things mental health generally, and particularly nutritional psychotherapy.
I love my work, it is a joy and privilege to work with people and share their experience as they navigate their way through life’s challenges. I love that there is always something new to learn no two days, or two clients, are ever the same. My work is stimulating, enriching, and a genuine pleasure, I count myself very lucky to have found my purpose and passion.
After my illness I developed my interest in the role of nutrition in physical and mental health, and eventually became a nutritional psychotherapist. In addition to working with individual clients on a one to one basis I also work with fellow clinicians to provide mental health services to organisations.
I am hugely passionate about all things mental health and my focus is always that I, and my team at Mind Health Matters Ltd, provide the very best mental health care service to everyone that we engage with and support. I collaborate with organisations who value their staff and are committed to working in partnership with industry professionals, providing Occupational Talking Therapy, Corporate Training and Coaching, Critical Incident Management Interventions, and Nutritional Therapy.
