My Story
A few years ago I experienced a life changing health issue that fundamentally changed my outlook on life and what I considered to be my priorities. Prior to this event I had worked for several years in the private sector, within large multinational organisations and smaller businesses; training and developing individuals using coaching and mentoring techniques to help them achieve their fullest career potential. On my recovery I decided to take a career break to focus on my family and my own developmental needs; I used this time to further develop my interest in psychology, returning to university to complete a Master’s degree, which in turn led to a Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. I have worked for several years as a volunteer counsellor at Cairns Counselling in Aberdeen, and I also have my own private counselling practice working with a diverse range of clients.
In part due to my personal experience of a life-threatening illness, I developed a keen interest in the impact of nutrition and diet on mental and physical wellbeing. Through my counselling work I increasingly find that whilst talking therapy is very effective it is just one aspect of many other interventions needed to facilitate good mental health. Seeing first-hand the detrimental impact of poor nutrition and lifestyle choices; and knowing how important a healthy diet is to my own mental and physical health; I decided to combine my professional experience in coaching with my knowledge of psychology and therapy to become a Nutritional Health Coach.
I undertake continuous professional development to ensure that my skills and knowledge are up to date in what is a new and exciting approach to mental health. I am passionate about supporting every aspect of my client’s journey towards better mental and physical health through natural interventions that support them and meet their specific needs. As a qualified psychotherapist, integrative medicine for mental health therapist, and nutritional health coach I believe passionately in using psycho-education to give my clients the skill set and the tools they need to improve their mental and physical health.
